A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Derber has called Colorado Springs her home for over 30 years. She is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and received her doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Derber is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association and has served on positions for both organizations. She was selected as the COA's Young Optometrist of the Year in 1989 and the Optometrist of the Year in 2000. She has been an adviser to leading contact lens corporations and has been the Principal Investigator for several contact lens related research studies. Dr. Derber is the eye care provider for the US Olympic Training Center and Colorado College Athletics.
Dr. Derber is passionate about providing opportunities for the blind and has been a board member for the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes. She is the U.S. Classifier for the International Paralympic Committee and the International Blind Sports Association and has taught eye doctors worldwide the rules for international classification.
She loves gardening, art and hiking Colorado's mountains with her loyal pointer. When she can, she travels with her children, Matthew and Shannon and especially enjoys going to their summer cottage in Ontario.
